49ers Bolster Wide Receivers With Addition of Ted Ginn

In the aftermath of acquiring Brandon Marshall, the Miami Dolphins found no need for Ted Ginn on their football team and began listening to offers.

The 49ers apparently wasted no time in inquiring about Ginn and, according to multiple reports, have completed a trade for the “not-so-sure-handed” receiver.

The reports are that the 49ers gave up a “late-round pick” , but it is now being learned that that specific pick is the 49ers 5th round selection in next week’s Draft.

As a former number nine overall selection of the Miami Dolphins, the 49ers should be excited about only giving up a 5th round pick because, quite frankly, he probably is better than anyone they would get with that pick.

Ginn was drafted to be the number one in Miami, and with all due respect, he was never destined to become that. The poor kid was slapped with a number one label, and he simply just doesn’t have the skill-set to make that happen.

However, in San Francisco, his expectations are lowered drastically, which should allow him to flourish.

The 49ers currently have two young receivers in Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan, allowing a very (and I emphasize very) fast Ginn to work the slot position where he could create huge (and I emphasize huge) match-up problems for opposing nickel corners, linebackers or safeties, none of which will be able to keep up with Ginn.

Add in a very good Vernon Davis, and a maturing Alex Smith, the 49ers could make some noise in the NFC West.

As has happened so many times before in the NFL, a players has been thrown into the wrong situation, and expected to do way more than capable of, but when he finally found the right situation, he resurrected his career. I think Ginn is one of those guys.

There’s no doubt that Ginn is a playmaker and will provide a huge boost to the 49er special teams. Add on the fact that he no longer carries the burden of being a number one guy, and you’ll see a receiver that will make things happen for the 49ers. Look out Cardinals, you’re run atop the West is coming to a close.
