Albert Haynesworth Highlights Several Available Veterans

As the second day of the NFL draft gets set to get underway, it looks like there could be just as many veterans moving from team to team as there are rookies entering the league. And not only backup players who a bad team might feel can start, but players will some name-recognition.

Albert Haynesworth, acquired just last offseason by the Washington Redskins, is said to be available and is expected by many league insiders to get moved today for a second or third-round pick. In fact, his former team, the Tennessee Titans, are believed to be the most likely landing spot.

Then there’s a handful of Dallas Cowboys available in wide receivers Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd, who are expendable with Dez Bryant now on board, linebacker Bobby Crayton, defensive end Marcus Spears, and even running back Marion Barber.

Crayton, Hurd, and Carpenter are all likely available for late-round picks. They are all backup guys, at best, and the Cowboys don’t expect a lot for any of them. Spears and Barber, however, might be worth a mid-round pick — something in the fourth round, or maybe even to a team with a later third-round pick.

The Tennessee Titans are attempting to move former second-round pick LenDale White now that Chris Johnson has come on as a guy they can trust to carry the load by himself in a 16-game season. However, I would caution the Titans that if they plan on giving Johnson the same load he had last year for the rest of his career, that he might only be around for another six years or so.

Johnson, by the way, is only entering his third season in the league.

Keeping White would probably be a good idea, but if they’re not going to use him he’s going to become an issue in the locker room, so they’ll probably try to get what they can for him this weekend — perhaps a fourth or fifth-round pick.

And for those who would like a defensive tackle, but don’t want to pay the asking price for Haynesworth, the Jacksonville Jaguars have let it be known that they’re open to moving John Henderson for the right price. The right price isn’t exactly known, but Henderson seems to be at odds with head coach Jack Del Rio and could probably be had for quite a bargain.

Another name to keep an eye on today: Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
