It’s been an eventful off-season for the Broncos thus far. It all began when they sent wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the Miami Dolphins, and all was supposed to be well in the Mile High City.

That is, until training camp began.

Since the start of training camp the Broncos have been dealt a handful of injuries, two of which happened within a few plays of each other when Knowshon Moreno went down with a right leg injury, only to be followed minutes later by Correll Buckhalter pulling up limp with a right hamstring injury.

It’s about to get worse.

Reports out of Bronco’s training camp is that the team’s star outside linebacker, Elvis Dumervil, suffered a torn pectoral muscle early in Wednesday morning’s practice.

Dumervil was initially ruled out indefinitely, but recent reports are surfacing that the Broncos expect him to miss four months, which would allow him to return for the end of the season.

“Doom” is going for a second opinion in the coming days to help himself, and the Broncos, get a more specific time table on his absence, but torn pectoral muscles are tough to deal with.

Depending on which side it’s torn on, it renders that entire arm useless. For anyone that’s played football, especially for a pass rusher such as Dumervil, the use of his arm and hands is vital.

With Dumervil and his 17 sacks from 2009 out for essentially the 2010 season, the Broncos will turn to their former first-round selections in Robert Ayers and Jarvis Moss to pick up some of his production.

The Broncos recently gave Dumervil a 5-year deal worth roughly $58 million including $43 million in guarantees.
