Aaron Rodgers Could Be Forced to Miss Time With Concussion

The bad news just keeps rolling in for the Green Bay Packers.

Nick Barnett had already gone down, and then tight end and rising star Jermichael Finley went down early in the Packers’ loss to the Washington Redskins, and now quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be forced to miss at least one week, if not more, with a concussion.

“It’s definitely possible (Rodgers could miss time),” Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday. “I know at a minimum he’ll miss some practice time.”

Earlier this season then-starting quarterback for the Eagles Kevin Kolb suffered a concussion (oddly enough against the Packers) and was forced to miss one game. Rodgers’ injury doesn’t appear to be any more severe than Kolb’s, and could in fact be more mild.

Unlike Kolb, however, Rodgers likely doesn’t have to worry about his starting spot. Forget the fact that Rodgers is firmly entrenched as the starter and the face of the franchise, but he also doesn’t have a former Pro Bowl quarterback sitting behind him waiting in the wings.

Should Rodgers be forced to miss the Packers’ Week 6 game against the Miami Dolphins, Matt Flynn — the former seventh-round pick — would get the start.

In his three-year career, Flynn has thrown a total of 17 passes.

With Flynn under center, and Brandon Jackson still trying to find his stride as the main running option (despite a couple impressive runs against the Redskins), the Packers face the possibility of starting what was supposed to be a Super Bowl season at a mediocre 3-3 after a likely loss to the Dolphins.

It just goes to show predicting the NFL is about as futile an effort as there is.
