Minnesota Vikings’ Season Ends in Chicago After Loss to Bears

Last week, Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings were able to come back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals to save their season.

But, unfortunately for the Vikings, the Chicago Bears’ defense is just a bit better.

Turnovers and another defensive meltdown did in the Vikings and their season. They now sit at 3-6 and are three games behind the Green Bay Packers and Bears. They’re still mathematically in the race, but the Packers and Bears have played some great games mixed in with a lot of luck and don’t appear set for a second-half breakdown.

The NFC is wide open this season, but the Vikings would have to win at least six of their last seven games to have any hope of extending their season. And with games left against the Packers, Bears, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles that would appear to be out of the question.

As far as Favre goes, this will hopefully be a season that’s forgotten in 20 years when we’re looking back on his Hall of Fame career. Individually I don’t believe he’s played as poorly as his stats would indicate, but the team as a whole has completely fallen apart this season.

As for Jay Cutler, he remains as much a mystery now as always. He had some great throws against the Vikings, and he had a few that had anyone watching scratching their head and wondering what might be going through Cutler’s head.

If he can take care of the ball better and Matt Forte can ignite their running game a bit, the Bears could do a lot of damage in the postseason. But if Cutler continues to be careless with the ball he’s going to find he doesn’t have the talent around him to make up for it.

Both teams epitomize the fact that football is a team sport. The Vikings needed a team effort to implode the way they have, and the Bears have needed and will need a team effort to continue their win
