With the No. 6 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft (via trade with the Cleveland Browns) the Atlanta Falcons select Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones.
Roddy White has had one hell of an emergence, but did not have a guy across from him. Now, with Jones in the fold, the Falcons have one scary receiving corps.
It cost the Falcons a swap of first-round picks this year, a 2011 second- and fourth-round pick, and a 2012 first- and fourth-round pick, but Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Smith obviously feel as though they’re a wide receiver away from a Super Bowl ring. They might be right, but they gave up a ton to go get Jones and it better pay off considering all they gave up.
