2011 NFL Draft: Houston Texans Select Wisconsin DE J.J. Watt

With the No. 11 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Houston Texans select Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt.

I thought the pick was going to be cornerback Prince Amukamara here, but it’s looking like the Texans feel they need a defensive end across from Mario Williams in their brand new Wade Phillips-led 3-4 defense.

Watt is the prototypical “5″ technique player. He’s just under 6’6, weight 290 pounds, and ran a 4.7 40-yard dash. If teams could mold their perfect “5″ technique defensive end, it would be Watt.

Watt is also a notorious gym rat and should, with the help of Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans, be able to turn the Texans’ defense around and perhaps have them making the playoff push everyone has been expecting for a few years.
