Is Tiki Barber on His Way to Becoming a Pittsburgh Steeler?

Rumors have been picking up steam the past few days and seemed to reach a boiling point today regarding former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber’s next destination. Barber is going to attempt a comeback after 4 years on the sideline and the team he is being linked to is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

SI.com‘s Peter King wrote today in his Monday Morning Quarterback column: “My educated guess, and maybe a little more than that, is Pittsburgh will be Tiki Barber’s landing spot this summer when he tries to return to football after four seasons away.”

King points at the Steelers veteran locker room and a relationship between Barber and head coach Mike Tomlin as a reason for the possible relationship.

In Pittsburgh, Barber will be competing with Mewelde Moore, Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer for a spot on the roster. As long as Barber shows he hasn’t lost too big of a step in his time off, he should easily beat out either Redman or Dwyer.

The question is, can anyone really stay away from the game for four years and not lose a significant step? Barber will also have to do some soul searching and make sure he really wants to play again for the love of the game and not money. If it all works out for Tiki, he could be suited up in the black and yellow next season and become Wiz Khalifa’s favorite running back.
