Nnamdi Asomugha Could Return To Oakland Raiders; Lions Also Interested

The latest buzz surrounding top free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha comes from NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt. Brandt participated in a live chat today and dropped his opinion on Asomugha’s status.

“Don’t be surprised if Asomugha goes back to the Raiders,” Brandt said. “Al Davis historically loves cornerbacks and will do everything possible to get Asomugha back. The money was one reason why the Raiders didn’t pick up his option.”

Outside of the Raiders, Brandt believes that the Detroit Lions are a real possibility.

“I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they make a big play for Asomugha,” added Brandt. “And I think he would consider the situation in Detroit and playing for Jim Schwartz, who has won the respect of his team. A cornerback’s best friend is a great defensive line, and right now the Lions have a pretty good group of defensive linemen.”

The Lions defense is really starting to make the turn to an elite unit and adding a guy like Asomugha would only accelerate the process.
