Many free agent running backs have heard their names connected as potential targets of the St. Louis Rams in free agency. It is no secret that the Rams are looking for a speedy, homerun threat at the position to provide a perfect compliment to current starter Steven Jackson.
Some names that have been thrown around include Steve Slaton, Reggie Bush, Cadillac Williams and Darren Sproles. Of the the names being circulated, Sproles is the candidate generating the most buzz inside the Rams meeting rooms, a league source says.
“[Sproles] has the name recognition and added value on special teams,” the insider said. “I don’t see ‘Cadillac’ coming here. I think for him to leave Tampa Bay, it would have to be for a starting role.”
Sproles and Steven Jackson would be a dynamic duo in the backfield and would take even more pressure off of young quarterback Sam Bradford. If the Rams can have a downfield threat develop at receiver, the team’s offense will be as well-balanced as you can find in the NFL.
