Owen Marecic Joins Cleveland Browns Workouts; Could Have Big Impact

Former Stanford Cardinal fullback Owen Marecic has joined player organized workouts with the Cleveland Browns. He was unable to attend the previous workouts because he was still attending classes at Stanford.

While Marecic is just a rookie, the hard-nosed player could have a big impact with the team. Marecic is everything you want in a football player and people are taking notice. Evan Moore spent some time with Marecic during his collegiate days and has nothing but praise for the former two way player.

“I was talking to our new head coach at Stanford [David Shaw] last week and he said ‘I’ve never seen anyone that has that kind of focus level,'” said Moore. “He lives and breathes football. You won’t hear a word from him, but he’s a player.”

Marecic’s attitude and toughness could be exactly what the Browns need. He will likely team up with Madden cover boy Peyton Hillis in the Cleveland backfield and create a tough rushing attack for opposing defenses. Marecic and Hillis are both blue-collar players who will win over their teammates and change the attitude of an offense. The pair will be a huge help to young quarterback Colt McCoy as well.

McCoy has been more than impressed with his teammates during the offseason workouts. He has left with nothing but positive thoughts from the sessions that have included around 30 players.

“It’s been great,” said McCoy. “I commend all of my teammates for putting in the time, the energy and the effort to get here and work so hard. Some of these guys aren’t used to the Texas heat, but we still got a lot of good, efficient work in.

“It was great to have the defensive guys here. It’s one thing to throw one-on-ones and individual routes, and understand the plays and stuff, but it’s a whole different ballgame when you start playing real 7-on-7 and you’ve got all the guys here to do it. That really makes a difference.

“We’re still not sure what’s going to happen with the lockout, but as we inch closer to the deadline of camp starting, it’s great to see how important it is to everybody to be here and that’s what I’m taking out of this. It’s definitely going to pay off when camp starts.”

The Cleveland Browns are one of the up-and-coming teams in the NFL and will soon be a perennial playoff contender with the added toughness of Marecic and Hillis paired with McCoy’s leadership. The team has a young nucleus and will only continue to improve.
