Asante Samuel: The Philadelphia Eagles Can Ship Me Out

The Philadelphia Eagles created a lot of buzz and stole the headlines after the lockout was lifted by swooping in and signing super free agent corner Nnamdi Asomugha. Asomugha is set to join veteran Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who was recently acquired in the Kevin Kolb trade with Arizona, in the Eagles secondary.

It would be a stacked secondary which would make it a nightmare for opposing teams who were forced to pass the ball, however, the unit may not stay intact for long. Asante Samuel appears very unhappy and seems like he expects to be gone from the Eagles before the start of the 2011 NFL season.

“If they’re tired of my big-play-making ability, they can ship me out,” Samuel said per Phil Sheridan of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

If Samuel leaves the team, Philadelphia will be losing a corner who made the Pro Bowl each of the past four seasons and intercepted 20 passes during his time with the team. Asomugha’s arrival makes Samuel expendable, but the Eagles would easily notice his absence. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
