Clay Matthews Helped Packers on Super Bowl Run With Broken Shin

While the Green Bay Packers were on an unbelievable run that ended with the team holding up the Lombardi Trophy, their defensive star Clay Matthews was fighting through pain. Matthews was listed as probably on the Packers injury report with a shin injury, but the listing did not indicate the severity of his injury.

Matthews played the second half of last season with a fractured shin.

“I don’t make a big deal of it,” Matthews said. “[It happened] some time in the middle of the season. You can’t do anything about it. I was just taking practices off and showing up on game day and giving it my all.”

If Matthews was able to put so much fear into opposing offenses eyes and become a Defensive MVP candidate while he was playing with a fractured shin, imagine what he is capable of if he can stay healthy. Everyone better watch for “The Claymaker” during the 2011-12 NFL season.
