There has been heavy speculation that Josh McDaniels could be in line to return to the New England Patriots as offensive coordinator following Bill O’Brien’s decision to take the Penn State job.
Even though McDaniels is still under contract with the Rams, the firing of Steve Spagnuolo changes the whole dynamic for McDaniels in St. Louis. Should Jeff Fisher eventually be the man in charge of the Rams, it seems unlikely that McDaniels will return as offensive coordinator.
There have also been rumors that the Chiefs have also requested a meeting with McDaniels, which would make a lot of sense as well given the Patriot ties in that organization.
So at this point it would make more sense for McDaniels to leave given the teams that are courting him. But that could change depending on who takes the Rams’ job.
