The Clock Has Run Out On ‘Tebow Time’
By Editorial Staff
When I first updated my Facebook status saying the Broncos would beat the Patriots 21-17, I was very confident that they would win maybe not that score, but that by some dazzling fourth quarter or overtime miracle Tebow and the unlikely Broncos would shock the world again.
Maybe I had belived a little to much in this Cinderella feel good story than I should have and let my emotions and judgment get clouded. After watching this game and the absolutely horrible performance and execution by the Broncos players, I was in awe.
Where was the stifling defense of weeks past? Where was what some had considered one of the most most phyisical and dominant offinsive lines in the NFL? After giving up a quick Brady-Gronk touchdown, it looked like the Broncos just rolled over and took the beating that came their way. The defense didn’t look like anyone wanted to cover Gronkowski, Hernadez or Welker and when one of them caught a pass, the other 10 defenders on the field not involved in the coverage didn’t look like they wanted to step up and hit these guys.
On offense the performance was even worse. This highly regarded line was getting no push at all and was being overwhelemed by 4-5 rushers. At the end of the 1st quarter, Brady had more touchdown passes than Tebow had completions and Aron Hernadez — a tight end — had more rushing yards than the entire Broncos team.
What happened to John Elway saying he wanted Tebow to “pull the trigger”? The coaching staff only let him open up and throw it 11 times in the 1st half when the game actually had a chance of not looking like a joke. This Broncos team looked like an entirely different team than the one who scorched one of the best defenses in the NFL just a week ago. After that game, the Broncos need to take a good hard look in the mirror this off season and do some real player evaluations.
