NFL Draft 2012: Indianapolis Colts Team Needs

The Indianapolis Colts have been great the past decade since Peyton Manning was drafted. But after Manning goes out with several neck surgeries, the Colts went 2-14 this season. That resulted in Head Coach Jim Caldwell being fired at the conclusion of the season. For the first time, everyone is finally starting to think about finding the next man to take over after Manning.

Here’s what the Colts need next season: QB, RB, WR and CB

The Colts need to draft the next quarterback. Peyton’s health is a huge concern, but also he is in the later part of his career. He can’t play forever. Plus, as we all watched this season, Indianapolis has no other QBs that can win. Even though the draft has not taken place yet, I can already see Andrew Luck in blue and white.

The Colts have three wide receivers set to become free agents in the offseason, the big ones being Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon. While Reggie Wayne might resign, I do not see Garcon doing the same. Indianapolis needs a speedy receiver with good hands. This will get some reaction: I think the Colts should trade Manning (Jets?) for a first round pick to get Malcolm Floyd or Alshon Jeffery.

Indianapolis needs more depth and youth at running back. There are always good, underrated RBs in rounds three to five. The same could go for their defensive line. They just need youth and a little more depth. As it has been in the past few years, the draft is soaking with good D-linemen.

I think cornerback is a position every team should draft each year. This adds, again, depth and youth, which are key factors in eventual success. The Colts especially need this, since the AFC South is becoming a much tougher and wide open division with good passing games.
