NFL Draft 2012: St. Louis Rams Team Needs

The St. Louis Rams were really disappointing to me this season. I don’t understand why they were so awful. Could it be coaching? Possibly. Jeff Fisher will step in as head coach next season, which could be a successful tenure. Fisher is walking into a franchise with plenty of talent, but there are some holes in the lineup.

The needs should be met are: WR, OL, DT, and speed!

The Rams should draft a wide receiver in the second round. You need a guy to help Bradford grow to his full potential. In the first round, I see them taking Matt Kalil — an offensive tackle from USC —  to help protect Bradford.  That takes cares of some of the O-line troubles, so he just needs some more targets now.

St. Louis has Long and Quinn at defensive ends, so their outside of the line is fine. Robert Quinn is coming off of his rookie year, and I can guarantee he will turn out to be an icon on defense. Chris Long is a great veteran DE, and is in his prime. On the line, the Rams just need a fat boy in the middle to slow down opposing teams’ run game. A big defensive tackle would clog up holes in the middle, forcing teams to try running to the outside and to pass.

Next, the Rams need speed. Their defense lacks the speed required, allowing bigger plays by the opponent’s offense.  Draft a fast linebacker, it will do wonders. Adding speed and continuing to develop Chris Chamberlain would be a great start at improving the defense.
