Super Bowl XLVI Predictions: Giants vs. Patriots

The big game is only a day away, with the New York Giants and New England Patriots meeting up in Indianapolis for a showdown in Super Bowl XLVI.

We’ve assembled our staff here at NFL Spin Zone and it’s time to get everyone’s take on who will come out on top on Super Bowl Sunday.

Let’s get right to the picks!

Sonja Holcomb – Tom Brady has the prayers of his wife and a powerful offense that can steamroll down the field crushing all in thier way. However, the Giants defense has fought tooth and nail for this game. Eli may have pushed the team to victory, but the defense has come to play in the final weeks of the season. As the chips have fallen into place, we are left with two team — New England and New York. We have been breaking down these two teams for weeks. The discussion has varied, who didn’t show up for the press day, who has a boot on, how amazing Cruz is, or how both teams have had some of the best fourth quarter comebacks this season. So, I will make this one easy. The game will be close and the New England Patriots honor the Kraft family and bring home another ring.

Prediction: Patriots 36, Giants 33

Ben Worthy– In my bold predictions article last week, I said the Patriots would win the Super Bowl on a last second touchdown pass from Brady as time expires. Do you really think I would back down from that? No way! Brady will score two rushing touchdowns, and have the lone TD pass to win the game. Although the Giants’ defense is playing great, I don’t think they can stop Tom Brady twice in one season. I have New England winning Super Bowl XLVI over the New York Giants 24 -21.

Prediction: Patriots 24, Giants 21

Chris Smith – This game will come down to one thing and one thing only – the New England pass rush. We know the Giants defense will throw everything at Tom Brady including the kitchen sink. But I have no doubt that Brady can get the job done. No, the way this contest will be decided is whether or not the Giants offense can keep up with Brady. If the Patriots can get pressure on Eli (and I think they can) then I don’t see them losing. A note on the score – I expect some late scoring.

Prediction: Patriots 41, Giants 27

Brittany Jacks – Being a student who has previously lived in New York, my pick for the Super Bowl is the New York Giants taking the Patriots 27-23. The overall line of offense, coupled with a strong, experienced defense will help the Giants to manipulate the playing prowess of the Patriots. Furthermore, recent shoulder straining on Tom Brady’s part, which resulted in missed practice in January could leave a pocket for the Giants to further infiltrate Patriot lines.

Prediction: Giants 27, Patriots 23

Blake Lovell – This matchup is about as even as it gets considering how the two teams have been playing, especially when it comes to the battle at quarterback. Eli Manning has proven that he can win the big one (which was made even bigger since the Pats were undefeated), but Tom Brady will have revenge on the mind here. The duo of Belichick and Brady are going to be ready and they’ll find a way to exploit the Giants’ defense. Their defense will struggle, but they will play well enough to give the Patriots the win this time around.

Prediction: Patriots 27, Giants 20

Josh Sanchez – The first time these two teams met at Super Bowl XLII was one of the best Super Bowl’s many of us will ever get the pleasure of seeing. Unfortunately, I don’t see this game being too close. The New England Patriots secondary is awful and the Giants will be able to put the pressure on Tom Brady early and often. While the Giants running game may not be too impressive, it will be enough to take advantage of a poor Patriots defense. New England will be able to put up points, but when you have Julian Edelman covering Victor Cruz or Mario Manningham, the matchup strongly favors the Giants. Revenge may be on the mind of New England, but the Lombardi Trophy will once again be handed to their opponents.

Prediction: Giants 31, Patriots 17
