The Pittsburgh Steelers will go into the 2012-13 NFL season without one of the most iconic players in team history. According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora on NFL Total Access, the Steelers will not be bringing back wide receiver Hines Ward.
Ward has one-year worth $4 million left on his contract, while the Steelers are attempting to clear up cap space. As it stands now, the 14-year veteran will be a cap casualty after losing his spot on the field to the younger, speedier Steelers wideouts — Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders.
Ward has said that he hopes to play in the NFL next season, even if that means playing for a team other than his beloved Steelers. No matter where he plays next season, the city of Pittsburgh will always be close to Ward’s heart.
