Player: Matt Kalil
Position: Offensive Tackle
School: USC
Height: 6-foot-7
Weight: 295-pounds

Positives: Excellent pass blocker protecting Matt Barkeley’s blind side, Strong and effective run blocker, Uses hands well and really extends arms to keep defender away from body, keeps a wide base in feet at all times, plays with passion and looks to get his guy on the ground every run play, redirects well, awesome build with room to bulk up if needed

Negatives: Gets stood up at times and needs to bend in the legs more, doesn’t always recognizes blitzes schemes right away, not overly stout at the point of attack, leans too much when run blocker and gets off balance.

Draft Grade: Top 3

Overview: Like his brother Ryan, center for the Carolina Panthers, Matt Kalil is a fantastic lineman to come out of USC. There is a reason Offensive Tackle is the second highest paid position in football, and Matt Kalil embodies all those reasons. He’s big, athletic, strong, and has quick feet. Could certainly be slotted at either right of left tackle, but an ideal fit would be protecting the quarterback blindside since his real strength is his great pass protection. Similar to a Joe Thomas or Jake Long mold, and can definitely be just as good as those two. Would most likely be the top pick if not for Andrew Luck.
