NFL Draft 2012: Justin Blackmon Scouting Report

facebooktwitterreddit

Player: Justin Blackmon
Position: Wide Receiver
School: Oklahoma State
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 215-pounds

Positives: Extremely productive with over 200 catches in the last 2 years, Great hands, consistently catches ball in “first window “(arms fully extended), does a good job on quick screens, amazing at getting feet inbounds on sideline passes, great body control and leaping ability, concentrates well and makes a lot of circus catches. Quick and very good at running after the catch.

Negatives: Gets caught from behind a lot, doesn’t have elite top end speed, benefited from spread offense. Not prototypical NFL wideout size. Needs to work on run blocking, catches ball with body.

Draft Grade: Top 10

Overview: Is Justin Blackmon in the same discussion as an AJ Green or Julio Jones as a pro prospect? In my opinion, no. However, he is still the top wideout in this class and has proven himself to be a top 10 draft pick through spectacular production and miraculous catches.

His size and lack of top end speed may hold him back from ever being an elite receiver, but Blackmon will always produce results with his sure hands and ability to run after the catch. Should eventually be a solid number one option. Could be better than Dez Bryant with time.
