St. Louis Rams May Deal Second-Overall Pick Before Draft Day

There is no surprise that the St. Louis Rams are talking with multiple teams that are willing to trade up to the second-overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, in order to secure their shot at Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III. There conversations are going so well, in fact, that the Rams could trade the pick well before the start of the draft.

According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora:

"The timing can be quite tricky, particularly with all of the unknowns regarding Manning’s health. The Rams are willing to do a deal quickly, league sources said, if a team wants to avoid the risk in the situation and decides that Griffin is its best option, and wants to secure the pick prior to having to sort through the market for Manning and/or Flynn."

At this point, it is not a matter of if, but when the second-overall pick gets moved. The teams involved in the sweepstakes appear to be the Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins, with a few longshots like the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs gauging interest.

St. Louis sure did strike gold with their draft location this year. The right package deal could set their franchise up for a future of long-term success.
