Virginia Tech Pro Day Recap And Notes

Pro Day is a day unlike any other for a young man entering into the upcoming draft.  For those who attended the NFL Scouting Combine, Pro Day serves as an opportunity to show the teams a second strong performance or a stronger performance  post-Combine.

However, for those who are not extended invitations to the Combine, Pro Day serves as their opportunity to show scouts in attendance what they can do.

This year, I had the opportunity to attend Pro Day at Virginia Tech.  In attendance were the players who attended the Combine in February — David Wilson, Danny Coale, Jarrett Boykin and Jayron Hosley.

There were also many other gifted and talented players working out as well including, Eddie Whitley, Josh Oglesby and Cris Hill amongst others.

The day started with weight lifting, followed by shuttle routines and then routes.  I found the observation of the routes to be the most interesting — each athlete had to prepare for their position’s routes, channeling precision and speed.

David Wilson, whose performance was one of the best at the Combine, continued to perform at an immaculate level.  Likewise, Jarrett Boykin, who struggled at the Combine, had a superior performance running smooth routes and transitions throughout the day.  With respect to athletes who did not attend the Combine, defensive  players Cris Hill and Eddie Whitley were attention grabbers with their performances.  While Whitley experienced a dropped ball, his recovery and perseverance were evident to all in attendance

Likewise, Hill, a cornerback, impressed those in attendance with his speed in drills and routes.

Needless to say, each athlete in attendance showed off his unique set of skills at Pro Day.  Best of luck to each of them as the Draft approaches.
