Alex Smith Agrees To Contract With San Francisco 49ers

Despite Alex Smith’s flirtation with the Miami Dolphins, he has decided to return to the San Francisco 49ers after the team missed out on Peyton Manning. Smith has agreed to a deal with the team, via Michael Lombardi.

The last numbers that were floated around for the Smith deal were three-years and $24 million. There is no word on whether those were the final terms or not.

It is possible that the 49ers gave Smith some additional “apology money” for looking to Manning for help.

In the end, it is good for both sides that Smith could come back to the team. He is an excellent fit in Harbaugh’s offense and the team is right in the mix as a Super Bowl contender. If Smith’s feelings would have been too hurt to return to San Francisco, then it would be clear that he is not mentally tough enough to lead a team to a championship.
