A Look At Potential Landing Spots For Tim Tebow

facebooktwitterreddit

Now that Peyton Palooza is over and Manning now has his new team, the Tim Tebow sweepstakes has begun. The Denver Broncos front office is looking to trade Tebow and a few teams have already emerged as possible landing spots for the savior of the Broncos 2011 season.

Some landing spots are realistic, while others are just pure speculation. What we do know is that there is a small market out there for Tebow and the Broncos should receive at least a fifth-round pick as compensation. Anything more would be a bit of a surprise.

So as we wait to see where Tebow does end up playing football in 2012, let’s have a look at five of the most talked about landing spots.

Jacksonville Jaguars

This seems the most likely of the bunch. Jaguars owner Shad Khan has made his Skip Bayless-esque man-crush on Tebow very publicly known. The guy loves Tebow to a scary degree. Even though Khan’s football people may not want Tebow in town, Khan has the ability to make a power play and bring in the guy that he thinks can sell tickets.

After all, no one really believes Blaine Gabbert is the answer. His pocket presence was awful last season and he showed zero improvement. You never want to give up a a guy too early, but Gabbert showed almost no glimpses of promise.

With Tebow, you build a bit of hype and excitement around the team. The Broncos get rid of Tebowmania and the guy they don’t believe in, Tebow gets to go home like he prefers and the Jaguars get a hometown kid that should excite a portion of the local fanbase. Perhaps, with Tebow, they could finally take some of those tarps of the upper seats in the stadium.

Out of all the teams involved, Jacksonville is the only team currently involved in very early trade talks with the Broncos. You have to call them the front-runner.

New York Jets

This is an option that has been gaining a lot of steam, but it just doesn’t make sense. Tebow needs to either go to a team where he can start immediately or a team that has an established quarterback. Neither of those are options for Gang Green.

The New York media would eat Tebow alive. The locker room is a mess and I don’t think Tebow is enough of a miracle worker to fix that issue. Then there is that head coach. If Tebow were to join this team, the media circus would be unbearable. ESPN would go from being a sports network to being the Jets network. I don’t see why anyone would bring that upon themselves.

Some fans and media members bring up the “WildCat” offense from Tony Sparano’s time in Miami. Let’s cut that talk out right now. The “WildCat” was a gimmick offense that teams have no figured out. Besides, Sparano wasn’t the one who ran the offense, that was David Lee. He is currently a coach in Buffalo. So moving on from that…

While some competition could help better Mark Sanchez, Tebow would not be the right choice. The fans and Tebow chased Kyle Orton out of Denver and I don’t think the Jets really want to give up on Sanchez just yet. This move makes no sense.

Miami Dolphins

This is an option we can forget about right now. There is no way it happens and the Dolphins have absolutely zero interest in Tebow. If Tebow is to return to Florida, it won’t be South Beach.

Green Bay Packers

This would be a move that makes a lot of sense. If Tebow truly wants to get better as a quarterback, he would welcome the idea of playing as a backup behind Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay’s staff did wonders with Rodgers and Tebow could benefit from sitting behind one of the best in the game today.

Let’s be honest, Tebow’s best value is as a backup quarterback. That is the role he will play in Green Bay, no exceptions.

Green Bay is smart enough to see this value for Tebow, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them make the move. For the Broncos, this trade involves the least risk. You wouldn’t be trading Tebow to the AFC and he wouldn’t have a chance at winning a starting job, so the chances of him coming back to haunt you are very slim.

New England Patriots

While it may be one of the more intriguing choices, it is also one of the best fits. No one in the NFL can get a football player to reach their maximum potential as well as Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick would be able to bring in Tebow and find the best place for him on the field.

Make no mistake about it, Tebow could end up playing tight end or h-back for New England, if that is where he lands.

Tebow is an excellent football player. He just isn’t a good NFL quarterback. So, if Tebow is interested in the longevity of his career and becoming the best he can be, he needs to put a whisper in the Broncos ear that he would like to join Tom Brady and company in New England.

When it is all said and done, the Jaguars look like the most likely landing spot for Tebow. All sides win in that situation and Shad Khan can have the shiny new toy that he has always wanted. Now, it’s your turn. Vote in the poll below and let us know where you think Tebow will land.
