Roger Goodell Taking Hands On Approach With ‘Bountygate’

The state of the National Football League has been one which has been rapidly evolving, ever since coming under fire, as a result of the difficulties most recently encountered with the New Orleans Saints. As you may recall, the aforementioned team caused an uproar when their secret “bounty” plans were unscrupulously revealed. Correlating with this situation was the solemn response emitted from current NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell.

When rocked with a scandal as vast as that associated with the Saints, one would expect a more calculated approach — one which consisted of poignant ideals and emphasizing the integrity of the sport; as a means of dismissing the negative being associated with the sport at that point in time.

However, with respect to Commissioner Goodell, one might have expected a result more so like that displayed when encountered with the scandal involved the New England Patriots, now collectively referred to as “Spygate.”

The response which was received from Goodell with respect to the current Saints scandal was unlike that received with the “Spygate” scandal, in which he was reported to have smashed tapes associated with the issues at hand in front of a senator. One could draw conclusions with respect to that approach, that those tapes contained details more harm inducing, than was originally perceived.

Referencing back to the Saints, the approach which Goodell has chosen to take has been quite different. The commissioner has instead had a quiet handle over this issue, choosing to attempt to address issues at hand in private.

The questions with regards to the current Saints dilemma and with respect to Commissioner Goodell are “how long can Goodell keep the handlings under wraps?” , “if he is currently encountering this type of dilemma with the Saints, how many other teams is he also having to address?”, as well as “does the usage of the term “bounty” have any bearing on the reactions of the public and their perception of the issue at hand?”
