Packers Sign RB Cedric Benson

The Green Bay Packers have added some depth and talent at the running back position by signing Cedric Benson. Formerly of the University of Texas he was drafted by the Chicago Bears fourth overall in the 2005 draft and has spent the past four seasons playing for the Cincinnati Bengals.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter cited a source saying the deal was for 1 year.

Benson has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the last three seasons, surprising some that he is still available as a free agent. Maybe due to his fumbling problem having the the ball on the ground 12 times in the past 2 seasons and losing it 7 times.

Aaron Rodgers was forced to do most of the work through the air in last year’s 15-1 campaign as the Green Bay Packers had one of the worst rushing offenses in the league last season.

James Starks is bothered by turf toe, Brandon Saine (hamstring) has not practiced, Alex Green is coming off knee surgery, and Ryan Grant was not re-signed.
