Tennessee Titans beat writer Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean is reporting this morning that the team’s management has made a decision regarding their starting quarterback for the regular season and that second year Jake Locker has won the battle over veteran Matt Hasselbeck.

This report, while as yet unconfirmed, is in line with what we have heard this preseason as the Titans have continued to push Locker as a viable starter. Numerous reports – including that of our own Josh Sanchez – have pointed out that Tennessee are prepared to move on from the oft-injured Hasselbeck who while performing reasonably well in 2011 is at the back end of his career. Such a decision makes alot of sense when you consider that there is always the option of going back to Hasselbeck should Locker require more time on the sideline – a safety net that may not be available for much longer.

Jake Locker played his college football with the Washington Huskies from 2006 to 2010 and was drafted by the Tennessee Titans with the 8th overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft as the second quarterback taken after Carolina took Cam Newton first overall.
