The Pittsbugh Steelers and Steelers Nation should rejoice. Their speedy wide receiver Mike Wallace is reportedly set to report to the Steelers as soon as this weekend. The timetable would give Wallace two weeks to prepare for the season opener and the team’s final preseason game to get some full speed reps under his belt.
Wallace has been a no-show for the Steelers since refusing to sign his one-year tender. He has now had a change of heart and give the Steelers the deep threat they have needed, if the sources are correct.
Fellow wide receiver and Wallace teammate Emmanuel Sanders hinted that Wallace would soon report to the team last week when he said, . “There’s light at the end of the tunnel … for the end of training camp and for Mike coming back. The puzzle is starting to come together. … I don’t know the exact date, but it’s looking pretty good.”
Wallace has now told his teammates that he plans to return this weekend.
It is now possible that with Wallace back with the Steelers that long-term contract negotiations could open up. During his time away from the team, Wallace was staying in shape in Orlando, Florida. He should have no problem completing his conditioning test and immediately getting to work on new offensive coordinator Todd Haley’s system.
