Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart left the team’s preseason game against the New York Jets in the second quarter after injuring his right ankle on a run that took the Panthers inside the Jets five yard line. Stewart stayed down for a few moments before limping over to the sideline.
Minutes later, Stewart was seen on a cart headed to the locker room for further evaluation. There was obvious pain on Stewart’s face.
It would be a big loss for the Panthers who, despite having depth at the position, are seeing injuries begin to pile up in the backfield. Hopefully for the Panthers and Stewart, he is diagnosed with only a sprain.
