Andrew Luck’s Father, Oliver, Joins NFL Player Safety Advisory Board

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced today that Oliver Luck, former NFL quarterback and father of current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, will be joining the league’s NFL Player Safety Advisory Board. Luck is currently the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at West Virginia.

He will join the advisory board which is co-chaired by NFL Hall of Famers Ronnie Lott and John Madden.

“It is a real honor to have been asked to participate as a member of the NFL Player Safety Advisory Panel,” said Luck. “I would like to thank the co-chairs, John Madden and Ronnie Lott, for the opportunity, and I look forward to making a positive contribution to the work of the panel.”

The other members of the advisory board are former NFL players Antonio Freeman, Anthony Munoz, Willie Lanier, Patrick Kerney, former head coach Steve Mariucci and former general manager Ernie Accorsi.

Per the NFL, the areas of focus for the Play Safety Advisory Board as as follows:

  • Developing proactive, substantive recommendations to promote the safety of all participants in the game.
  • Reviewing playing rules, techniques, strategies, training methods, safety-related studies and equipment standards.
  • Communicating with NFL players and coaches to gather information and gain a greater insight into how the game is currently being played.
  • Reviewing game video to study trends and techniques.
  • Promoting safe and successful playing techniques.
