San Diego Chargers Officially Rule Ryan Mathews Out For Monday Night

The San Diego Chargers will be taking on the Oakland Raiders in an AFC West showdown on Monday Night Football in week one. While there was some hope that running back Ryan Mathews would be available, the team announced today that Mathews has officially been ruled out as he continues to recover from him broken clavicle.

The Chargers have also ruled out offensive tackle Jared Gaither.

Mathews seemed to know he would be ruled out of the game and he is now targeting a week two return.

“I haven’t been cleared for contact, and I think we’re just going to wait this week,” Mathews said. “I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing. … The next game, that’s what I’m looking for now. I don’t know about the team, but me personally, now I’m looking for that game against Tennessee.”

While Mathews won’t play in the Monday night opener, he appears determined and on pace to contribute to the Chargers early in the year.
