Alex Smith Breaks 49ers Record For Consecutive Completions Without INT

Wait… what?!

Yes, you read that correctly. Quarterback Alex Smith now holds a place in the San Francisco 49ers record — the same franchise that benefited from having the greatest of all-time Joe Montana and Hall of Famer Steve Young under center.

Today, Smith extended his consecutive completions without an interceptions streak to 185 and broke Steve Young’s franchise record.

It is stunning to see the statistic but when you look at Smith’s ability to manage a game, you shouldn’t be that surprised. Smith has found a place for himself under Jim Harbaugh, who has preached taking care of the football. Smith is a lot smarter with the ball and is not afraid to take a checkdown.

It is strange to see Smith associated with a positive record but what’s done is done. Congratulations to Alex Smith!
