The Atlanta Falcons got their season off to an explosive start after a 40-24 blowout of the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Falcons got the win on paper, they managed to suffer a significant loss in the locker room. Head coach Mike Smith announced on Monday that franchise cornerback Brent Grimes would be placed on injured reserve and miss the remainder of the season with an Achilles injury.
This is exactly the reason players are against the franchise tag.
Grimes will get a big pay day this season but he cost himself a lot of money with the injury. He is headed towards free agency since he failed to reach a long-term deal with the Falcons and teams will be hesitant to pay him while he is coming off of a serious Achilles injury.
You have to feel for Grimes but it is the cruel nature of the game.
