Former Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs has a long history with the team and led them to three Super Bowl wins during his tender. Gibbs still maintains a close relationship with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder as a “Special Advisor.” Even with Gibbs’ close relationship with the Redskins, he took the time out this past week to visit their NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, prior to their week seven game against the Carolina Panthers.

Gibbs visited the Cowboys at their team hotel and gave a pep talk before the game.

Gibbs talked to the Cowboys about their clock management problems and even mentioned a mistake of his own back from 2007 which cost the Redskins a win against the Buffalo Bills. When Gibbs was giving his advice, the Cowboys players were soaking in every bit of his story.

“A couple players told me, ‘If Joe Gibbs can screw it up at the last second, everybody else can screw it up,’” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said.

Even though Gibbs and Jones are close friends, it doesn’t seem right to hear that Gibbs was giving advice to the Dallas Cowboys. It goes against everything fans want to believe. Fans want to believe that rivals on the field carry that rivalry with them every step of the way but that is simply not the case.
