The Jacksonville Jaguars have received a pleasant surprise from the performance of wide receiver Cecil Shorts who has been starting as the team’s “X” receiver in the absence of free agent acquisition Laurent Robinson who remains out with a concussion.
Shorts has been such a pleasant surprise for the Jaguars that slot wideout Mike Thomas became expendable and they shipped him off to the Detroit Lions for a 2014 fifth-round pick.
On the season, Shorts has hauled in 20 catches for 400 yards and three touchdowns. 12 of those catches and 195 yard have come over the past two weeks. Shorts has been targeted 22 times in the team’s last two games and is becoming a more important part of the Jaguars offense.
Whether or not Shorts remains an important part of the team’s offense when Robinson return has yet to be seen, but that doesn’t change the fact that he has emerged as a real weapon for Jacksonville.
