The San Diego Chargers are expected to start running back Ryan Mathews in today’s game against the AFC West rival Denver Broncos, and he figures to have a huge impact for the Chargers. The news comes to us from Jason La Canfora, and Jamey Eisenberg has tweeted that he will be used as a “bellcow” per La Canfora.

Mathews has merely been average this season and is coming off of a poor game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he should have a solid outing against the Broncos. The Chargers will be using him heavily in this game, especially since his neck has improved greatly. He’s finally getting more short-yardage touches, and things could come together this week for the former Fresno State standout.

Meanwhile, the Houston Texans will be utilizing solid tight end Owen Daniels today in their quest for an easy victory over the AFC South rival Jacksonville Jaguars. The top team in the division- and conference- will be ready to eat up the bottom-feeders, and Daniels will be looking to pick up right where he left off before missing last week’s game against the Chicago Bears with a hip injury.

The Jags have actually played well against TEs this season, but Daniels will be one of those exceptions. He has five touchdowns this season in just eight games of action, and he is closing in on 500 receiving yards.
