San Francisco 49ers To Start Colin Kaepernick Over Alex Smith

The San Francisco 49ers have made a very gutsy decision, but it was the right one.

It is being reported that 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has informed Colin Kaepernick that he will be the team’s starting quarterback for this week’s game. The quarterback change comes just days after Kaepernick stole the show on Monday Night Football against one of the league’s top defenses. Jim Trotter of was the first to report the news.

Alex Smith’s health is not a factor in the decision. Kaepernick is just the better downfield passer and gives the team a more open pass game. With Kaepernick under center, there is no doubt this is a much better team.

On the season, Smith is completing 70% of his passes with 13 TDs and 5 INTs. He boasts a QB rating of 104.1, so Kaepernick will have some big shoes to fill.
