There is presumed to be an aggressive market to trade Alex Smith as teams who are desperate to find a solution at quarterback call and call. There were rumors that the San Francisco 49ers had a deal in place to trade Alex Smith to a ‘mystery team’ the moment the free agent markets opened up.

Matt Barrow of The Sacramento Bee however says other wise. He tweets:

"With the caveat that everyone fibs at this time of the year: I’m told the #49ers do not have a trade deal in place for Alex Smith."

Teams that are supposedly interested are the Arizona Cardinals who went through 4 different quarterbacks this season. However it’d be unlikely the 49ers would send him to a team within their own division. A division that’s getting tougher as the Seahawks emerge and the Rams turn things around.

The other team that supposedly has a lot of interest in Alex Smith is the Kansas City Chiefs. As of right now they’d draft either Geno Smith or Luke Joeckel with the #1 overall pick.

By acquiring Alex Smith by trade would allow them to shore up two needs with by also draft LT Luke Joeckel. Andy Reid has said any quarterback can work in his offense but he has been intrigued by Alex Smith’s mobility.
