The Dallas Cowboys went through a wide variety of injuries on the defensive side of the ball. This led to them signing linebackers from all corners of the earth to fill in. But more telling is the fact that the Cowboys are switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3. The result is less linebackers.
So Dan Connor was a big free agent signing of last summer to serve in the middle aside Sean Lee. But Bruce Carter emerged as a potential star linebacker.
Dan Connor’s role with the team has been diminished and the Cowboys would like to keep him as a back up, but not at his current salary. So they’ve given Connor two options: take a pay cut or hit the bricks.
He is set to make $3 million this year and unfortunately finds himself as a luxury, not a necessity with the Dallas Cowboys. If he is cut by the Dallas Cowboys he’ll become a free agent and the Cowboys will save $3 million in cap space, which they desperately need.
