Despite reports earlier today that the New York Jets and Chase Daniel were talking, Daniel has just signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s a three year deal for Drew Brees’ former back up.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports that the deal is supposedly over $3 million per year. That’s a rather large pay day considering the very minimal playing time he has gotten behind Brees in New Orleans.

Adam Schefter tweeted that it was a 3 year deal, which would bring the deal to a 3 year $9 million deal.

Daniel was wise to avoid the quarterback circus in New York and will settle in behind Alex Smith in Kansas City. The trade for Alex Smith between Kansas City and San Francisco became official today when free agency officially got under way.

There are reports that Andy Reid could try to groom Chase Daniel into a starting quarterback. It could be a big marketing move for the organization given the proximity to Missouri, the state Chase Daniel played his college ball in.
