The New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was absent from the start of the offseason program today. It isn’t all that surprising considering he hasn’t signed his $2.879 million tender yet.

All NFL Teams have until Friday to sign Cruz to an offer sheet if they’d like. Fortunately for the Giants no one seems to be interested. That might be good news for Cruz too, who has expressed a desire to stay with the New York Giants long term.

His Giants teammate Justin Tuck seems to think that reporting to the offseason program would be the smart decision for Cruz.

“He hasn’t said anything as far as why he wouldn’t be there, even though, obviously, the contract situation,” Tuck said. “But for me, I think the biggest way to get things settled is to be there in good faith, I guess. But I can’t answer questions for Victor, he has to do what’s best for him.”

“And hopefully, when it’s all said and done, he’s doing a salsa in a Giants uniform this season. That’s all I’m worried about.”

But nevertheless the NFL doesn’t work on ‘good faith’ anymore. And Cruz made the business decision of not attending until a deal is done.
