Early returns on New York Jets QB Geno Smith are underwhelming at best (ESPN). He hasn’t stepped up and taken the starting quarterback job in New York like some had hoped and this might allow the buttfumbler Mark Sanchez to regain the starting gig all over again.

There isn’t much offensive firepower in New York either. Sanchez or Smith can walk out there and will likely struggle without the weapons to throw to. The Jets are trying out Kellen Winslow Jr and Mike Sims Walker hoping that there is some tread left on their tires. Who will they have to throw the football to?

Smith was a candidate to be drafted as the overall number 1 selection and then slipped down to the second round. Now reports are saying that he isn’t performing to a levell to compete for a starting job. Sounds like it was smart for other teams to pass on Geno.

I wonder if they will ever get real competition for Sanchez in New York. Probably not.
