Butler was signed in the offseason from the Dallas Cowboys by the Saints to a 2-year deal. He was a key signing for the Saints defense and now it looks like he will be out for the season.
Somebody on defense will have to step their game up. Martez Wilson or rookie Rufus Johnson would be the next guys on the depth chart.
Nick Barnett is a veteran linebacker that is still available. He wouldn’t be able to add a pass rush like Butler, but he would be able to add some veteran leadership to the roster and he is good in coverage. There are not too many options left for the Saints through free agency though.
