San Francisco 49ers DT Justin Smith just worked out a new contract extension with the team, but he is unsure if he will ride that contract all the way through. He wants to ge all the way there, but if he is going to be riding the bench because of injuries or poor play, then he will just hang them up.
"“That’s not going to happen,” he said. “I won’t be a guy that’s around for 10 snaps, 20 snaps. It’s either I’m going (to play full-time), or I’m not going. And when it’s time to get my ass out of here, I’m going. I get a ticket like everybody else, so that’s what I’m doing.” – NFL.com"
At this point, Smith is still a big time contributor on the defense. He is a disruptive force on the defensive line. He is a key part to the stout 49ers defense. If he is healthy, he will be playing.
If they win that championship, then we might see Smith ride into the sunset with a huge ring on his finger.
