Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman is entering a contract year and the team has yet to approach him about a new deal, which is not exactly a singing endorsement from the coaches and staff.

Well, Freeman got a singing endorsement from his head coach, Mr. Greg Shiano, Tuesday.

Ok, the guy didn’t sing, but you get the idea. Per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk:

"“We have a quarterback,” Schiano said, via NFLN’s P.R. department.  “It is Josh Freeman.  He had a really good spring.  I am really encouraged.  He is going to have a big year.”"

The words are ringing hollow for many. Freeman has yet to be approached by the team for good reason—they likely want to see what he has to offer before actually wrapping him up long-term.

Further adding issues to the notion Freeman’s job is not safe is the presence of rookie Mike Glennon. There’s been rampant speculation Glennon is waiting in the wings should Freeman fail.

Freeman has been one of the most erratic quarterbacks in the NFL over the past few years. He’s earned his starting gig, but not any of the security that should come with it. Schiano is endorsing Freeman for now, but that could change at the drop of a hat.
