Donovan McNabb Says Matthew Stafford is Not Worth the Money

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford just cashed in on a mega-contract with the team. Some believe Stafford deserves the massive extension because of his statistical output over the past few years and his potential for the future.

Others, such as former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, say Stafford has not earned the contract. Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk has the quote:

“It’s about wins and losses again,” McNabb said on NFL Network, via MLive.com. “Now, as a quarterback and as Matt Stafford, hey, I would take that contract just like Tony Romo took his contract. But is he worth top 5 money? I would have to say no. And I say that because it’s about wins and losses. What has he really done for the Detroit Lions? Nothing.”

The Spin: No. 5 is going to receive a lot of flack for this one, but he is right in a way. Stafford has not done much in the win column, especially against top-tier opposition.

That said, the Lions are paying Stafford on the basis he will continue to develop and perform better. He should be focusing his criticism on that rather than what Stafford has earned.

In pro sports if your not winning the championship, then your just one of many losers..so i find it real funny that this clown, who didn’t have the backbone to ever..i mean eeever..stand up for himself, is so quick to blast all of these other QB’s now that he’s in a suit everyday…maybe thats why tho because he begged and pleaded to get a gig and couldn’t get a $5 offer sheet so he’s jelly about any QB who gets shown love by his team. He should know better then anyone that the QB can’t win games by himself, or maybe the self-proclaimed legend would have taken the Eagles to the promise land, but instead he was puking his guts out on the 50 while T.O. was putting the team on his back…and broke leg. All and all, and as Lions fan, i know we woulda had a few repeat 0-16 seasons if not for Stafford, so on behalf of Lion nation, tell Christian Ponder’s back up to Shut the F up

No running game and a porous defense has more to do with wins and losses, than Staffords play. McNabb is no better at “analyzing” than playing.

Like there was a Choice? Franchise QB’s don’t grow on trees….
if it wasn’t Stafford, Calvin Johnson would look like an un-used expensive asset.
