Ronnie Hillman Entering Denver Broncos Training Camp As Lead Back

The Denver Broncos will be entering training camp with RB Ronnie Hillman as the number 1 option in the running game. That doesn’t mean he will start the season as the number 1 guy though. Rookie RB Montee Ball will be doing everything he can during training camp and preseason to overtake that spot as the number 1 guy.

Per The Denver Post, Hillman will open camp as the starter and Ball, a high-profile rookie, will get a look as a third-down option and a rotation runner on early downs.

The job is up for competition. Whoever shows the most promise during training camp will get the opportunity to start along side Peyton Manning in the Denver Broncos offense. With all the firepower that the Broncos possess in the passing game, running lanes should open up for either back. Both young backs have a lot of potential, but the back that can provide the best protection for Peyton Manning should be the back that wins the job. I think both backs would be a decent option in the running game.

    I like Ronnie Hillman’s chances.
Montee Ball has great stats coming out of college(4 yrs)…5738 ttl yrds – 83 TDs – All American 2011 & 2012.
Hillman college (2 yrs) stats…3581 ttl yrds – 38 TDs – are really not that far apart in comparison. Hillman actually is younger and now has an NFL years of experience under his belt. He reminds me of Marshall Faulk.
I think he could be the bell cow for Denver (such as it is) and Ball be the back up.
