The New York Jets and Rex Ryan have announced that Mark Sanchez will start the first preseason game this week over Geno Smith. He will get all the first team snaps and play with all the 1s. Geno will play against the 2s.

The Jets already know what they have in Mark Sanchez… and it is not all that good, so why not toss the rookie out there with the first team and see how he does. Toss him right into the fire and get him some game time action against the first team.

Geno Smith will be the future starter of the team. They might as well find out if he can get it done now. If he can’t adapt in the preseason against the 1s, then you sit him back down with the second team.

Since Mark is starting, Rex can get Geno in the game early and get him some time with the first team and then let him play for a couple of quarters. It will give Geno more experience in the game and then Rex can switch the starters next week. That would then allow Geno to get the most playing time during the preseason.

Get Geno as much experience as possible during this time.
