The Kansas City Chiefs are going to shut down Jamaal Charles for the preseason. That is no surprise. Why would you place the team’s best weapon out on the field in a game that doesn’t matter? He can rest his injury and have a better chance at getting to the regular season with some health.
Charles hurt his foot earlier in training camp and had all of Kansas City holding their breath. He escaped without a serious injury and now the team will proceed with caution with him. For good reason.
This will give opportunities for other guys on the roster to gain some experience, but it won’t help out Alex Smith and the rest of the first team offense during preseason. Charles is too valuable to risk though at this time of the year. The expectations around the Kansas City Chiefs are growing, but they rely on the health of certain players. If Charles were to go down with a serious injury, there is nobody else on the roster that would be able to replace his production. Just too valuable.
